Plaza Hotel
Project History
The Plaza Hotel has been a Manhattan landmark since its opening in 1907. Featured in numerous films, and occupied by the rich and famous, the elegant building is the epitome of refined glamour. The current restoration sought to return the French Renaissance chateau-style façade to its original state. A 62,000 square foot mesh banner, showing what the hotel would look like afterwards, was erected on the Fifth Ave face during cleaning and renovation. Certain elements could not be saved, and custom made molds were cast from the originals. For terracotta, limestone and white marble veneer details that could be restored, Conproco’s family of Terracotta Restoration products was used.
